Security professionals from across the Benelux region gathered on the 6 September at Ingenhousz in Breda for the revealing of the winners of the 2022 Outstanding Security Performance Awards.
The winners highlight the very best companies, people, projects and technologies that have made a significant contribution in safeguarding people, places and property from all areas of potential crime and disorder.
Those who were selected went through a rigorous and robust independent judging process and should feel very proud.
The 2022 winners are:
Outstanding Security Manager/Director – Mourad Douidi – STIB-MIVB
Mourad Douidi joined the STIB in 1996 and rose through the ranks to become Director of Security in 2019. Since being in this role, Mourad has implemented a new security strategy, which has had a positive impact benefitting both customers and staff of the STIB. As an inspiring leader, Mourad believes in the virtues of continuous improvement for himself and for others, and he constantly strives to become more competent through professional development and training. He is currently undertaking studies at the University of Leuven in Urban Security Policy.

Outstanding Security Team – DHL Supply Chain Security Team
DHL’s Benelux & France Security organisation is often considered as a pioneer within the EMEA region. They are regarded by many as a solid partner for internal and external customers. The security team creates added value to DHL Supply Chain’s business and have a broad knowledge in the field of security and investigations, across a wide variety of sectors. They are committed to delivering the best-in-class security solutions and the head of security shares his knowledge with the future leaders in logistics as a lecturer at Thomas More University.
Outstanding New Security Product – NineID® – Nine Engineering
Nine Engineering offers easy-to-use solutions that increase access security, site safety and privacy compliancy. Their flagship solution NineID® offers both a privacy-compliant SaaS platform that centralises user identification, certificates, and training courses. This makes documents readily available for audits, and also hardware devices needed for access management on site, which work with QR codes, smartphone scans, or via facial recognition. In addition, the digital flow is more than 100% faster than traditional processes. In May 2022, Nine Engineering raised €1.1 million to further expand their commercial growth.

Outstanding Security Partnership – Taskforce Overvallen – Jos van der Stap
Taskforce Overvallen is a public-private partnership which was founded in 2009. It is based on extensive academic research and analysis to prevent robberies in The Netherlands, helping to track down and prosecute robbers, reduce recidivism, and reduce repeat victimhood. In 2009, the number of robberies was reduced from almost 3000 per year to less than 700 in 2021. Jos van der Stap MSc, National Robbery Coordinator and Program Manager from the National Police has been an important source of knowledge and support, and has made a significant contribution to the success of the partnership.
Outstanding Security Training Initiative – TU Delft Risk Management Summer Course – Rinske Geerlings, Regina Edoo and Sicco Santema
Rinske Geerlings, since being awarded Alumnus of the Year in 2012 by Delft University of Technology (the Netherlands), has been organising an annual Risk Management Summer Course, the TU Delft, where she graduated Cum Laude in 1997. This 2-week programme includes Information Security, Business Continuity, Supply Chain Security and Risk Management modules. Participants and guest presenters from academic, corporate and government come together to explore these 4 subject areas. Delegates also have the option to certify their skills in ISO 27001, ISO 22301, ISO 28000 and/or ISO 31000, respectively.

Lifetime Achievement Award – Marc Cools
Marc Cools has been a pioneer throughout his career in the areas of private security, intelligence studies and art crime. His PhD was the first study undertaken into private security in Belgium. Still today he is the leading promoter / supervisor for new research into this domain. He is regarded by many as the academic expert in this area and is therefore frequently asked by government, business leaders and universities for his advice and opinion. He has made an incredible impact on the (private/public) security industry in Belgium and is a deserving recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award.
